Brand safety
Brand safety is the practice of ensuring advertising does not appear adjacent to content that would damage the advertiser's reputation, and that a media owner's inventory does not carry advertising that breaches its own standards.

In detail
Brand safety is usually described from the advertiser's perspective, but in cross-border work it runs in both directions. A media owner accepting advertising from an unfamiliar market has its own exposure, and its editorial standards are as much at stake as the advertiser's reputation.
The operationally significant question is when enforcement happens. A framework that reports adjacency after a campaign has run tells both parties what already occurred. Reviewing creative before trafficking, and honouring category exclusions at the point of trafficking, prevents the incident instead.
For China outbound campaigns specifically, upstream creative review also catches localisation failures that would not register as a brand-safety issue in the origin market but would in the destination.
