China outbound
market data

Every figure this site cites, in one place, with a named source and a publication date attached to each. Including an explicit account of what is not reliably known.

What are the headline figures?

Mammoth estimates China outbound advertising spend at roughly $60B annually. China represents approximately 20% of the global advertising market and 44.1% of global retail media spend. Global advertising passes $1 trillion for the first time in 2026.

Before the numbers, one caveat that governs all of them. There is no reliable published measurement of China outbound advertising spend as a discrete category. Outbound spend is not separately reported by the platforms that receive most of it, is not broken out in agency disclosures, and is not tracked as a line item by the major forecasters.

The $60B figure above is therefore Mammoth's own estimate, built from founder-side visibility of agency billings and platform concentration, and we label it as an estimate wherever it appears. A related error is worth naming: figures for China's domestic digital advertising market are frequently misattributed to outbound spend. Domestic and outbound are different markets, and conflating them overstates outbound by a very large margin.

How concentrated is the outbound agency layer?

China outbound media budget is concentrated across roughly three tiers of agency. The top tier is BlueFocus, TecDo and MeetSocial; a second tier includes GIMC, Sevens, SparkX, Huntmobi and Eclicktech; below that sit the international 4A networks and more than a hundred specialist independents.

Tiering reflects Mammoth's assessment of relative scale in the outbound market, compiled from founder relationships and public disclosures, 2026. Directional rather than audited.

What is not reliably known?

Four things are not reliably known: total China outbound advertising spend, its split by destination market, its split by channel, and the outbound-only portion of any agency's billings. Anyone presenting precise figures for these is estimating, including us.

We state this plainly because the alternative is to participate in a pattern that damages the category. Cross-border markets attract confident numbers precisely because they are hard to verify, and a company whose proposition is verifiable delivery cannot credibly trade in unverifiable statistics.

What can be established with confidence is directional: outbound spend is large, growing faster than the global average, concentrated in a small number of platforms on the supply side and a small number of agencies on the demand side. Every operational decision this site describes follows from those four propositions rather than from a precise total.

Method and sources

Every statistic on this site is drawn from one of the sources below, cited inline at the point of use with a publication date. Where a figure is a Mammoth estimate rather than a published measurement, it is labelled as such in the immediate vicinity of the number rather than in a general disclaimer.

This page is reviewed quarterly. Pages that are not refreshed lose AI citations at roughly three times the rate of pages that are, so the review date at the top of this page is functional rather than decorative.
